Gone are the days when we'd have to wait for the actual Super Bowl for trailers teased for the big game to drop. Now, in order to get out ahead of the avalanche, studios are pushing out their promos in advance. It's welcome, though, since we get an earlier-than-promised look at Jordan Peele's new horror thriller, Nope.
This first proper look at the film continues some traditions of Peele trailers: a classic track used in a new way in this case, Stevie Wonder's 'Fingertips', creepy imagery (working with Peele here is regular Christopher Nolan cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema) and the promises of some major scares. There's even Get Out's Daniel Kaluuya in the cast for good measure.
Also a key part of a Peele trailer? Not giving everything away – setting up the basic concept (in this case Keke Palmer's family business in film-related ranch work suddenly impacted by something terrifying from the sky), providing some memorable moments ("bad miracle") and then leaving you wanting more.
With Steven Yeun, Barbie Ferreira, Brandon Perea and Michael Wincott also in the cast, the latest tale of terror from the Oscar-winning writer/director will be on our screens from 22 July.
