Ever since she caught Hollywood’s attention thanks to her breakout role as Lisbeth Salander in Swedish thriller T****he Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (and its sequels), 30-year-old Noomi Rapace has been the focus of a whirlwind series of meetings as studios and directors pitch ideas for her and she tries to figure out what to use as her big US debut. Now it would seem she’s confirmed at least one of the projects, with word that she’s signed on to Sherlock Holmes 2.
The film has been developing quickly, and though details are still sketchy, we do know that Robert Downey Jr’s Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law’s Doctor Watson will this time be squaring off against ultimate nemesis Moriarty, at least in between sessions of sarcastic, chummy banter. There has been talk of the detective’s brother Mycroft cropping up too, though after watching Mark Gatiss play him on the BBC’s Sherlock, we sort of want him to take the role in all incarnations.
Rapace’s role is also mostly a mystery (is she a love interest? A villain? Both?) with the Heat Vision Blog’s sources pointing to her possibly being a French gypsy.
Sherlock 2 is scheduled to kick off shooting later this year.
And while Rapace has been rumoured to be also fitting in a lead role alongside Jeremy Renner in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, that’s still just speculation for now.
