Noomi Rapace Heads For Hollywood

Fresh from her head-turning success as hacker-savant Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and its sequels, Noomi Rapace is making a lot of friends in Hollywood.

Deadline reports that the actress is on Warner Bros' wishlist for Sherlock Holmes 2, and that Paramount are head-hunting her for Mission: Impossible 4. She's taken meetings with Brad Fischer (for The Last Voyage of the Demeter), James McTeigue (for The Raven), Tommy Wirkola (for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters) and McG (for This Means War). And Brett Ratner, just because he likes her.

Deadline also reports that Rapace met with Ridley Scott, although the reasons for that encounter aren't mentioned. Allow us a moment of rampant, unsubstantiated wish-based gossip-mongering, but might he have her in mind for the Alien prequels?

Whatever, it's all big news for Dragon Tattoo's break-out star, who may yet find herself with an Oscar nomination, if the publicists have their way. We do hope she doesn't allow herself to be dazzled into dodgy choices though. There are signs in Deadline's story that, as an entity, Hollywood isn't entirely sure what to do with her: "They're shocked to find she's nothing like Lisbeth. They go into the meeting to ask if they have a villain, and they leave wondering if they have a female lead..."

The Girl Who Played With Fire is out in the UK on August 27.
