In all the turmoil and cast changes of Western drama Jane Got A Gun, one crucial character element has always seemed to slip by: who will play Natalie Portman’s outlaw husband in the film. We can all stop wondering, because Noah Emmerich has signed on to take the part.

Warrior director Gavin O’Connor, who took over the megaphone after Lynn Ramsay clashed with producers and ditched the gig on the first day of shooting, has reached out to Emmerich, who has appeared in four of his previous movies and stars on US telly drama The Americans, for which O’Connor directed the pilot.

Jane Got A Gun finds the titular homesteader (Portman) thrown into crisis when her criminal spouse (Emmerich) is double-crossed by his gang and badly injured in a hail of bullets.

When the gang – led by the recently cast Bradley Cooper – heads to her farm to finish the job and torch the place, Jane decides to ask her former lover (Joel Edgerton) for some help defending her home. Naturally, this leads to some tension…

Brian Duffield wrote the script for the movie, which is now shooting in New Mexico and hoping that its problems are finally behind it.
