For fans of Guillermo del Toro, Nightmare Alley is a total treat. The filmmaker’s follow-up to the Oscar-winning The Shape Of Water is a lavish, thematically rich psychological noir thriller, full of incredible performances, gorgeous production design, and a storyline that’s hard to shake when you leave the cinema – and if you just can’t get enough of the great director’s latest film, we have good news. Following in the footsteps of films like Parasite, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Logan, del Toro has cooked up a black-and-white version of Nightmare Alley –not only placing the film in the typical monochrome milieu associated with noir movies, but accentuating the moral grays that permeate the story of Bradley Cooper's Stanton Carlisle and his life of manipulation. Titled Nightmare Alley: A Vision In Darkness And Light, it’s officially getting a UK release.

The black-and-white version of the film will be arriving in UK cinemas from 4 February. It’s likely to be a limited run in select cinemas rather than a widespread release, so check your local listings for more information. Speaking to IndieWire about the A Vision In Darkness And Light edition, del Toro explained: “It’s not a movie where you turn the color off. The movie is almost like a serigraph in black and white that then has another layer of color. If you saw the movie in black and white, it’s not like you just turned the color off. It looks exactly like a movie from the 1940s in a way that is astounding.” Who’s ready for a second trip down Nightmare Alley, then?

Nightmare Alley is out now in UK cinemas. Catch the black-and-white version in UK cinemas from 4 February.
