Game of Thrones might be rapidly approaching its final run of episodes, but anyone hoping for a new fix of George RR Martin-inspired TV drama is in luck. Not only is that Age of Heroes-era Thrones spin-off heading for a pilot, but Netflix is bringing an adaptation the author’s novella Nightflyers to its streaming service. Rather than swords-and-sauciness, this is a space-and-psychology sci-fi saga — and you can take an early look in this first trailer.

This one finds a crew heading deep into space on a mission to try and save the Earth from a terrible fate, with mind-meddling results. Here’s the official synopsis: “Nightflyers follows eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath who embark on an expedition to the edge of our solar system aboard The Nightflyer – a ship with a small tightknit crew and a reclusive captain – in the hope of making contact with alien life. But when terrifying and violent events begin to take place they start to question each other – and surviving the journey proves harder than anyone thought.”

The ten-episode series will be airing on Syfy in the US, and will hit Netflix in the rest of the world at some point in 2019 – though there’s no official date yet. Either way, prepare for a fresh influx of Martin-inspired TV to hit your screens next year.
