Proving that he's not just a dab hand at gamboling about on all fours exposing his distinctly blue shade of skin, Alan 'Nightcrawler' Cumming is to take pen to paper again to adapt his first novel Tommy's Tale for the big screen. The wee Scot, whose winning comic performances as Boris and Fegan Floop in Goldeneye and Spy Kids respectively blew nearly everyone else off-screen, hasn't let his own personal projects slide in the face of big budget flicks such as the upcoming X-Men 2. So as well as indulging in Nightcrawler's nifty trick of teleportation among the mutants, Cumming has managed to fit into his career flicks such as 2001's The Anniversary Party which he co-wrote, co-directed and co-produced alongside Jennifer Jason Leigh. As personal and close to his heart is Cumming's new project Tommy's Tale, a semi-autobiographical story about a hedonistic London lad rethinking his life as he faces 30. And he's more than happy with the indie film producers whom he has persuaded to take the novel to the screen. "I know they understand my book and will make a film true to it," Cumming told Variety. "It's very important to me that the spirit and content of the book are not compromised." A true artist in Hollywood, eh? A rare thing, indeed.
