The final theatrical trailer for the effects-heavy Ben Stiller comedy, Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian, has gone online.
Ordinarily, given our violent apathy (yes, such a thing is possible) to the first movie, we’d simply throw up a link, and ask us all to move on with our lives. But this thing, darn it, certainly looks better than the original.
The first minute or so, we’ve all seen before – it’s the face-off between Stiller, returning as Larry Daley, the security guard who can’t help but surround himself with museum exhibits that come to life, and Jonah Hill as a jobsworth guard at the famous Smithsonian.
Then, though, we’re into the action, via a rundown of the characters – and there’s plenty of both, including Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart, Hank Azaria as the bad guy, Kahmunrah, and Bill Hader as General Custer, alongside the returning likes of Steve Coogan, Owen Wilson and Robin Williams.
And while this trailer may not have much in the way of huge laughs – the inclusion of Darth Vader, or a Darth Vader statue, as one of the bad guys, receiving a withering dressing down from Azaria, is pretty funny; the talking Albert Einstein bobble heads are not – it certainly seems to deliver on another level: spectacle.
The movie, directed again by Shawn Levy, looks huge, with giant statues coming to life, biplanes flying through the Smithsonian, and more besides. This could run Pixar’s Up very close for the title of biggest family film of the year.
