Precious director Lee Daniels is not exactly having the best run of luck since making the Oscar-winning film. His planned take on the historic Civil Rights march in Selma has been in limbo for a while and though he recently took over sexy thriller **The Paperboy **recently, that has become plagued with cast members dropping out, with Tobey Maguire and Sofia Vergara both leaving for different reasons. But now it looks like things might be getting back on track, as Nicole Kidman is in talks to take over Vergara’s role.

Matthew McConaughey is still in the frame for the lead role of a reporter who, with his brother, digs into the events surrounding a murder, an investigation that could lead to a man on death row going free.

If she signs, Kidman will be a woman with a dark side who has a thing for writing letters to death row inmates, and who brings the case to McConaughey’s attention. Suffice to say, they also give in to passion.

Zac Efron’s also still aboard, so Daniels and his producers will really just need to replace Maguire. If the casting switch can be pulled off, the plan is to kick off shooting in late summer.
