The DC Extended Universe could be about to obtain its latest Oscar winner. According to The Wrap, Nicole Kidman is in the middle of negotiations to take on a role in **Wonder Woman.
If she does join the film, she’ll apparently be playing a high-ranking Amazonian warrior, seen alongside Gal Gadot’s Princess Diana (AKA Diana Prince, AAKA Wonder Woman) and the report speculates that she could be looking at the role of Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, and the heroine’s biological mother.
Patty Jenkins is in the director’s chair for the film, written by Jason Fuchs, which seems to be about exploring Wonder Woman’s origin story. We’ll also meet Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), the human who wins Diana’s heart. His role will be boosted from the usual sidekick in the comics for the film.
It’s unusual to think of Kidman going for a comic book movie these days, but not that unusual – she was, after all, Dr. Chase Meridian in Batman Forever and occasionally takes genre roles alongside her more awards-baiting films. Wonder Woman is aiming for a June 23, 2017 release date in the US. Kidman will next be seen in drama remake Secret In Their Eyes, which is out in the UK on March 4 next year.
