Among the many projects bubbling away in his brain and at various companies is Drive / Only God Forgives director Nicolas Winding Refn’s plan to take on horror via I Walk With The Dead. With an eye to making it less man-centric, he’s working with playwright Polly Stenham on the script.

“He’s got a lot of stick for doing films some people think are violently misogynistic,” Stenham tells the Evening Standard’s Londoner column. “So he approached me with the idea of doing something different.”

Exact details about the film have been hard to come by, though previous talk has been about Carey Mulligan starring in a story set in Miami that features a lot of sex. It’s more recently being described as an all-female horror, with, as Stenham indicates, “a bit of everything” in terms of horror elements.

Refn has a talent for teaming up with writers to produce thought-provoking films: though he penned** Only God Forgives** alone, he worked on Drive with Hossein Amini and Matthew Read and Roy Jacobsen on Valhalla Rising. Stenham will hopefully bring a new vibe to the Refn style. There’s no word yet on when he’ll be shooting as Dead is still in development.
