A fan of keeping future projects close to his chest, Drive and Only God Forgives director Nicolas Winding Refn is again collaborating with current Bond franchise writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade for a mysterious new movie.

According to Deadline, the only real details anyone knows at this point is that it's a thriller set in Asia and will be full of action elements. This, of course, has led to speculation that Winding Refn could finally be going ahead with The Avenging Silence, a film he's been quietly developing for several years and described a Tokyo-set thriller with a stoic but violent protagonist.

It could also signify a slight shift back towards more mainstream filmmaking after the punch-fest that was Forgives; Purvis and Wade, after all, have made their names providing popular big-screen thrills with the 007 films. And they have an established relationship with Refn, having worked with him on a version of the Barbarella reboot that's currently bubbling away as a TV drama in Amazon's development cooker.

As for confirmed Refn films, he'll unleash Los Angeles-set fashion world horror thriller The Neon Demon upon the world this year, featuring the likes of Elle Fanning, Keanu Reeves and Christina Hendricks.
