As his latest film heads to Cannes to duke it out in competition, Nicolas Winding Refn has shared a first trailer for The Neon Demon. Check out the moody footage below.

Refn’s return to the streets of LA for the first time since he burned rubber and spilled blood there for Drive plunges into the dark heart of culture and humanity, finding the likes of Elle Fanning, Jena Malone, Karl Glusman, Bella Heathcote, Abbey Lee, Christina Hendricks, Desmond Harrington and Keanu Reeves in the story of aspiring model Jesse (Fanning) moving to the city only to find that it hides some very dark terrors.

In short, “Her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women that will do anything to take what she has.” So pretty much business as usual in LA, then. But though she's quickly a target for envious others and those who would exploit her, the footage suggests that Jesse isn't quite as vulnerable as she might first appear.

With Mary Laws and Polly Stenham co-writing alongside the director, The Neon Demon will hit the Croisette in May before arriving in US cinemas in June, and should be in the UK soon after that.
