It's clear, looking at his career, that Nicolas Cage has no fear of potential embarrassment in his roles. He’ll be keeping it a little more restrained – at least, it appears he will – for a new crime thriller called **Men With No Fear.
Cage is in talks to star in Spanish writer-director Paco Cabezas’ new film, which boasts Bryan Singer as an executive producer. The plot focuses on Marty The Mule, recently sprung from the slammer after he spent time thanks to his old boss, a small-time crook who set him up.
The small fry criminal has since gone on to become a powerful, ruthless drug lord and, to add insult to impending injury (it’s a crime thriller: someone’s going to be punched/stabbed/shot), has raised Marty’s son. Naturally, our hero is none too pleased about all this, so he concocts a plan to take revenge and gathers a group of fellow wrong ‘uns to help him, while also winning his son’s affections back. Because nothing re-builds bridges between estranged family members than violent crime…
If it all works out, it’ll reunite Cage with the director, who last worked with him on Tokarev, another story that featured criminals at its heart. There’s no word on when that one will hit our screens, but Cage will show up in David Gordon Green’s Joe, set for limited release here on July 25.
