The last time Nicolas Cage and director Mike Figgis worked together, the result was Leaving Las Vegas, which scored four Oscar nominations and saw the actor go home with a Best Actor gong. So you can see why he might be eager to reunite with the director, signing on to star in an ensemble film called **Exit 147.
Travis Milloy wrote the script, which weaves together different narratives, including a police officer with a warped sense of justice (Cage), a women escaping her abusive partner and said man, whom Cage ends up arresting. They all become embroiled in a series of sadistic mind games.
“This is the kind of story that turns up once in a blue moon," Figgis tells Variety. "It is the perfect vehicle for Nicolas, and I am excited to be back in business with this great actor. I love this combination of dark and scary balanced with edgy humour." He’ll start the cameras rolling in January.
And Figgis is not the only director that Cage is looking to work with, as he’s agreed to star in Paul Schrader's Dog Eat Dog. And that’s despite the fact that their previous collaboration was Dying Of The Light, a film that has been hit by various wrangling over edits and financing, and arrived here quietly in January.
This one is a crime thriller following three former jailbirds in Los Angeles who are hired for a kidnapping job. When the abduction goes awry, they’re forced to flee, aiming to stay out of the clutches of the law again. Schrader worked with Matt Wilder to adapt Eddie Bunker’s award-winning book.
Cage has been busy reteaming with yet another director, Oliver Stone for Snowden. He’ll also be seen in** The Trust**, **The Runner **and Army Of One.
