Nicolas Cage Offered Treasure Of Pompeii

And it's NOT National Treasure 3

Nicolas Cage Offered Treasure Of Pompeii

You may recall that a story emerged last week about Italian director Michele Soavi planning a sequel to his 1994 zombie epic **Cemetery Man (aka Dellamorte Dellamore). In that story was a small nugget about another Soavi project: a Goonies-style family adventure set in Pompeii and starring Nicolas Cage.

Details were thin, and haven't thickened considerably, but Twitch got hold of Soavi and found that the film in question is **Treasure of Pompeii. It's certainly Soavi's immediate next gig, and the offer is out to Cage, although he's yet to sign on the line.

It's still not clear whether the role earmarked for Cage is some sort of Belloq-like treasure-hunting villain, or an adventuresome parent of one of the kids. What's clear though is that this isn't, as some have speculated, a third National Treasure instalment. Although having said that, a gang of rascals crossing paths with Benjamin Gates while on their own adventure might be an interesting twist on that series.

Shooting, with or without Cage, starts in April, with Cemetery Man 2 to follow afterwards. Cage is currently filming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance in Eastern Europe, so it's by no means out of the question that he'd stop off in Italy on his way home.
