Nicolas Cage Is Knowing

Nicolas Cage has signed up for another new project before the predicted actors' strike next summer, and it sounds... well, more Next than Leaving Las Vegas, let's put it that way. He'll star in director Alex (I, Robot) Proyas' next film, Knowing, due to start shooting ni March.

The story casts Cage as a teacher (hang on, really? With the crazy eyes, they'd let him teach?) who digs up a time capsule* at his son's primary school. Startling predictions in the time capsule that have already come true lead him to believe that something strange is going on, and when he sees that the capsule also predicts that the world is going to end in a week, and that he and his son are involved, things get proper freaky.

So it's a bit Donnie Darko, a bit that dude with the paintings in Heroes, a bit generic sci-fi thriller. It's based on an idea and first draft by novelist Ryan Pearson, with the latest draft by Proyas and Stuart Hazeldine (presumably completed pre-strike).

So, any interest at all?

*Note to those not familiar with the concept: we don't mean a time capsule in the sense of HG Wells or Timecop or Back To The Future; it's one of those lame school projects that kids do where they bury a box filled with stuff that's important to them for other kids to dig up in 20 years. This, our teachers assure us, is Very Educational.
