A Derry girl, a Sex Education star and a core contributor to the Cornetto Trilogy – as cast announcements go, the lineup for new British historical comedy Seize Them! is about as chock full of comedy talent as you can get.
Directed by Curtis Vowell, whose recent work includes the Rose Matafeo-starring Baby Done, and written by Andy Riley, Seize Them! is a fun new female-led film set in Britain in the dark ages, starring Aimee Lou Wood as the empowered, egotistical Queen Dagan. She ends up on the run when she’s toppled from the throne by charismatic leader of the revolution Humble Joan (Bridgerton and Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan), and seeks help from secretive former servant Shulmay (played by Ghosts and Shrill’s Lolly Adefope) and “shit-shoveller who wants more out of life” Bobik (Nick Frost) in order to find her way back to the throne.
“We are very excited to be working with the funniest young actresses around today in Aimee, Lolly and Nicola as well as the epic Nick Frost and Jess Hynes,” says producer Damian Jones of the project. “Backed by one of the best distributors in the UK in Nigel Green and EFD, we feel privileged to be bringing this project to the big screen.” The comedy started shooting this week in the castles of Kent and Wales, and doesn’t have a release date confirmed just yet – but with that kind of comedic calibre in the cast, it’s one to look forward to.
