Crime thriller adaptation** Dark Places** is certainly gathering up solid actors at a fast pace. Charlize Theron – who is also producing – signed on as the lead a while ago, and just yesterday,Chloe Moretz started talks. Adding a little testosterone to the mix is Nicholas Hoult, who has officially made a deal.

Adapted from Gillian Flynn’s novel, Dark Places focuses on Libby Day (Theron), a woman whose family was slaughtered in their farm’s barn as part of what appeared to be a Satanic cult ritual when she was seven. Back in the day, she pointed to her brother as the culprit, testifying against him in court. Now, 25 years later, the Kill Club, a group obsessed with notorious crimes, confronts her with some searching questions about what actually happened that day. Libby’s inspired to dig into the matter herself and discovers some potential new suspects.

Hoult is set as Lyle, the awkward treasurer of the Kill Club. Gilles Paquet-Brenner wrote the script and will direct the film.

It’s a busy time for Hoult, who has already been seen in Warm Bodies and Jack The Giant Slayer this year. He’s at work on sci-fi drama Young Ones and will move from that on to reprising Hank McCoy for X-Men: Days Of Future Past. And he’s part of the Mad Max: Fury Road cast (which also features Theron), with George Miller set to release his latest post-apocalyptic thriller next year.
