Prom co-star Nicholas Braun has signed on to a new comedy, agreeing to star in Lionsgate’s Gay Dude.

The plot finds Braun as a high school guy who makes a pact with his best mate that they will both lose their virginity before they graduate. But the plan is put to the test when the friend announces that he’s gay.

With a title like Gay Dude, we’re sure this one will be a model of sensitivity, respect and not trying to get cheap laughs out of a young man coming out of the closet. Oh, who are we kidding? It’ll probably be silly, rude and spark protests. But there is one hopeful element – the script is by Alan Yang, whose day job is writing on ace US sitcom Parks and Recreation. While that’s no guarantee that this solo effort won’t be another example of a dodgy comedy, it’s something.

Braun has been making a name for himself a little more recently after several years of small roles. He stole scenes in Prom (admittedly not that tough, and we doubt too many people saw it given how badly it did at the box office) and is one of the leads in Kevin Smith’s** Red State**, which the writer/director is bringing on tour to the UK this August and September. He also impressed Smith enough to score the lead in his next film, hockey pic Hit Somebody, which should shoot next year…
