Theme parks have been used in various ways on the big screen, from places where the attractions try to murder the guests (your Westworlds, your Jurassic Parks), to those where Jesse Eisenberg either deals with teenage angst (Adventureland) or flesh-munching horrors (Zombieland). It looks like Wally's Wonderland, which will star Nicolas Cage, is going right back to the first genre.
Kevin Lewis is directing what sounds like a chunk of typically Cage-ian madness, as he'll play a janitor who is forced to spend the night in the twisted titular amusement park. In a nightmare scenario, the murderous animatronic characters come to life and he'll have to fight his way through them to survive. Or, as Cage might call it, Thursday.
G.O. Parsons wrote the script, and while the writers of The Simpsons might want to have a word about the concept of animatronic characters coming murderously to life, it certainly sounds like a concept Cage will have some fun with. "For me there was always one actor and one actor only who could make this movie work," says Lewis in a statement picked up by Deadline, "and that actor is Nic Cage. I’m thrilled to be working with him and can’t wait to see him go up against Wally and his gang of psychopathic misfits. I see this movie as Pale Rider vs Killer Klowns From Outer Space." Sounds like the screaming will start sooner than in some other movies.
