Nicolas Cage is well known for having, we’ll put this charitably, a liberal attitude when it comes to choosing scripts. Now another one has come his way and he’s set to play the lead in something called Tokarev.
Neon Flesh director Paco Cabezas, who usually works in Spain, is making his American directing debut with the film. Jim Agnew and Sean Keller wrote the script, which finds Paul Maguire (Cage) as a former cop who is looking for his daughter’s kidnappers and trying to avoid the pitfalls of his past. So it’s Taken meets any number of previous Nic Cage thrillers? Well, we can certainly see why he might agree to star…
Hopefully this one will have a better path to the screen than some of his recent efforts, which have been shunted to disc or ripped apart upon release.
There’s no word on when Tokarev will get started, but the producers are busy selling the rights to the movie at the European Film Market in Berlin. They can probably mock the poster up already from three other Cage films. Oh, and for trivia hounds, the Tokarev is a Russian bottlenecked pistol cartridge, so you can be confident that rounds will be fired in this movie.
