For years Nick Cage has wanted to get into comic book movies. And now he’s made one – Ghost Rider – he just can’t stop.
This latest isn’t your regular Marvel-type hero, though. The Sadhu is the next adaptation to come from the Virgin Comics stable, and will see Cage playing James Jenson, a soldier drawn to India during colonial times who ends up becoming a spiritual warrior.
Virgin Comics co-founder Deepak Chopra is writing the script, based on the comic created by his son, Gotham. “The Sadhu is a bold, visual epic that taps into one of India's most heralded spiritual traditions," Virgin’s Sharad Devarajan told Variety.
But before Cage even considers that, he’s got a project closer to home that might drag his attention away. Virgin have struck a deal with Sony to adapt the story Enigma into a comic, with plans for a film to follow. Why should Cage be so attached to it? Um… Probably because he wrote it with his son, Weston.
Wrapped around a murder investigation in New Orleans, Enigma tracks a detective who discovers that the slayings are related to a rebellion on a plantation years ago. "Weston has always been a huge inspiration to me," Cage told the trade magazine. "His creativity is fresh, original and on the pulse of what is happening now. In a world which needs more spiritually minded superheroes, Weston's Enigma emerges."
