In October, the news broke that director Simon West would be following up work on historical drama Purple Mountain and Jason Statham revenge tale The Mechanic with action thriller Medallion. Lurking among the list of possible stars was one Nicholas Cage. Now, according to the Heat Vision Blog, Cage has jumped aboard the film.

Medallion will find the actor as a former master thief whose daughter is kidnapped and locked in a car’s trunk. To make matters worse, the car happens to be a taxi. In New York. And do you know how many of those there are? At least 13,087 at last count.

Cage’s character reacts much as you might expect – aiming to find his missing sprog and track down the men who swiped her. Luckily he has a particular set of skills- wait, wrong movie.

Former magazine journalist David Guggenheim – the man who first got noticed for cooking up Safe House, the Denzel Washington thriller that Universal is about to shove into production – is behind the script.

While the likes of Statham and Clive Owen have been linked with the project in the past, Cage has been the one to sign on. He’ll likely jump to the movie once he finished shooting Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance in Romania.
