Nicolas Cage seems committed to appearing in thrillers and dramas and not seeking out comedies (aside from the odd diversion into ‘toons such as **The Croods **and unintentionally hilarious guff such as Season Of The Witch). He’s just become attached to German production Black Butterfly, which will see him star alongside actress Veronica Ferres.
Cage is on to play an author named Paul, who befriends a drifter type, only for things to turn decidedly deadly. There’s no word on who Ferres will play.
Brian Goodman is directing, based on French TV series Papillon noir, which featured Eric Cantona as Jack, the drifter character. We doubt he’ll be back for the film version, but if they were looking for some stunt casting, Cantona could do the trick!
Cage, meanwhile, will next show up in vengeful thriller Seeking Justice as well as kidnapped daughter drama Medallion. He’s also got Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance set for release next year and is at work shooting crime pic The Frozen Ground. Oh, and he’s rumoured to be part of the cast for The Expendables 2, but there’s no word on whether he’s actually involved…
