"When the last and dreadful hour / This crumbling pageant shall devour / The trumpet shall be heard on high / The dead shall live, the living die / And music shall untune the sky." So wrote John Dryden, on cheerful form in 1687, but he'd have felt better if he'd known that, centuries later while The World's End is happening, we plan to be in the pub with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright, getting utterly bonced. You're all invited, earlier than previously thought, on July 19. And to help you save the date, here's a spanking new quad poster.
If St John's Revelation didn't quite stretch to a booze-up, it certainly did give us firey stuff falling from the sky. So he was right about that part. Those glowy-eyed figures looking on, meanwhile, are giving us the John Wyndham vibes that Wright has promised us. At this point, we're most curious about the branded cross on Pegg's forehead, which we've not noticed before...
The film, you'll know by now, sees Pegg playing a slacker who reunites a group of friends to finally finish an epic pub crawl that defeated them years previously. Hindering their progress on this occasion is the small matter of the end of days. Hopefully our heroes will not allow such trifles to deter them. Readers of Neil Gaiman's Sandman will recognise The Inn At The World's End as the place where you hide from reality storms. And there's no better hiding place from reality, we're saying, than a good few pints of Dogbolter.
