Westworld Season 2

It feels like a long time since we saw the last of the hosts and the humans in Westworld, almost as though we've been caught in a repeating loop of invented history. But the show is back next month and some new imagery from Season 2 is online via Entertainment Weekly.

The new season finds the park still in chaos, as the hosts, who are now all aware that they're programmed playthings designed for the violent delights of their human masters and clients, are in full-on revolution, with the likes of Maeve (Thandie Newton) and Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) leading the charge.

But because it's Westworld, things aren't quite as simple as that. While executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have done their best to keep things quiet regarding the plot, they have had to open up a little bit about what we can expect. For one thing, we'll get to see more of the park's early days, with a focus on William (Jimmi Simpson) who was confirmed as – spoiler alert – the younger version of Ed Harris' Man In Black and how he has such influence. Harris' grizzled sadist is also back. Jeffrey Wright's Bernard explores more about the hidden agenda of the park itself and parent company Delos, including discovering the mysterious and downright creepy "Drone hosts", one of which you can see in the pictures above.

We'll also learn the fates of some of the management team who either went missing or were captured, including Shannon Woodward's Elsie and Luke Hemsworth's Ashley Stubbs. For more on the new episodes, and to see other imagery, head to EW's site.

Westworld returns to the US on 22 April, with a simulcast early on 23 April in the UK, followed by a repeat that evening. You can read Empire's review of Season 1 here.
