Though the new footage shown has yet to emerge online, the San Diego Comic-Con panel for Venom did at least release some new information. Prime among the new details is that Riz Ahmed's Dr. Carlton Drake also becomes the symbiotic villain Riot.

While he already came across as a bit of a wrong 'un, Ahmed at the panel stressed that he's coming from the usual angle of trying to help humanity. "He’s made a lot of breakthroughs in his time, and his foundation, the Life Foundation, is trying to envision what the future of life looks lite because the human race is almost done. With environmental issues on the rise, Drake thinks the future is in space, so he explores that and that’s where he discovers the symbiotes. "He’s trying to do right by humanity and save the future,” Ahmed said, "but as they say, to make an omelette you got to break some eggs."

Asked about the possibility of Tom Holland's Spider-Man showing up – don't forget that Venom is part of Sony's Spider-universe, and isn't directly tied to the MCU in the way of Spider-Man: Homecoming – director Ruben Fleischer and star Tom Hardy were evasive, saying it's unlikely for this film, but possible for the future. Oh, and according to Hardy, part of his reason for taking on the film was that his son was a Venom fan. Ah, father-son bonding...

Venom will be out on 5 October. If any footage arrives, we'll add it.
