The brothers in law are back. Yes, you probably knew that thanks to the first trailer back in August, but here’s a second promo to remind you of the return of mismatched cops Kevin Hart and Ice Cube in Ride Along 2.
Once again we find tough-as-old boots cop James Payton (Cube) being a badass while security guard-turned-rookie lawman Ben Barber (Hart) makes a fool of himself while still somehow managing to be of help. Despite the disparity between the pair – and the fact that Ben is preparing to marry James’s sister, Angela (Tika Sumpter) – they occasionally make an the sort of team that Tom Cruise in Oblivion would describe as "effective", so they’re dispatched from their Atlanta home base to Miami and must try to take down a big drug dealer named Antonio Pope (Benjamin Bratt).
Along the way they’ll run into the likes of Ken Jeong, Olivia Munn, Nadine Velazquez and even Tyrese Gibson, taking time away from being ready to appear in the next Fast & Furious film. How you respond to this probably depends on your feelings towards the original, as this has much of an “if it ain’t broke…” vibe.
With director Tim Story back behind the camera, Ride Along 2 is out on January 22.
