Back with a new film for the first time since 2015's Carol, Todd Haynes is sticking with period drama – two different time periods, in fact – for his latest, Wonderstruck. The trailer can be found below.
Based on The The Invention of Hugo Cabret writer Brian Selznick’s critically acclaimed novel (and adapted by the novelist himself), the story charts the experiences of Ben and Rose, children from two different eras who secretly wish their lives were different. Ben longs for the father he has never known, while Rose dreams of a mysterious actress whose life she chronicles in a scrapbook. When Ben discovers a puzzling clue in his home and Rose reads an enticing headline in the newspaper, both children set out on quests to find what they are missing...
Haynes has assembled quite the cast for this one, including the likes of veteran collaborator Julianne Moore plus Millicent Simmonds, James Urbaniak, Oakes Fegley and Tom Noonan.
The film will premiere in the UK at the BFI London Film Festival on 5 October, but there's no sign yet of an official general release. Stateside audiences will be able to watch it starting 20 October.
