Bringing comedy legends Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy to life, and digging behind their screen personas to uncover the real people beneath is no easy task. But from the early word, it's one that Stan & Ollie, which stars Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly, might just have pulled off. A new trailer for the film is online.
While it borrows the odd bit of footage from the UK version that arrived back in September, this more Stateside-centric look at the movie offers some fresh material too.
Stan & Ollie is set in 1953, with Laurel & Hardy's Hollywood golden age behind them. Now, carrying the baggage of the years and past disagreements, they look to recapture some of the old magic and draw out some of the laughs they're known for on a variety hall tour of Britain. They're a hit, but they can't quite shake their issues and Hardy's health starts to threaten the partnership...
Filth's Jon S. Baird is in the director's chair, with Shirley Henderson as Hardy’s wife Lucille, Nina Arianda as Laurel’s wife Ida, Danny Huston and Rufus Jones. Stan & Ollie will be in US cinemas on 28 December ahead of a UK release on 11 January.
