Aside from a quick dip into TV with A Very Murray Christmas, Sofia Coppola hasn't directed since 2013's The Bling Ring. But she's back this year with sweltering, sexually charged tale The Beguiled. A new trailer is now online.
Based on the Southern Gothic novel by Thomas P. Cullinan, the film finds Colin Farrell as John McBurney, a Union soldier injured during the American Civil War. Near death, he is rescued by a young girl at a strictly conservative all-girls’ boarding school, Miss Martha Farnsworth Seminary for Young Ladies, in rural Virginia. McBurney begins to bond with the women in a highly sexually repressed environment... And quickly, this clash of morals takes a dark turn.
Don Siegel directed a version in 1971 with Clint Eastwood and Geraldine Page; the 2017 offering also stars Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning. It'll be in our cinemas on 14 July.
