Do we have to do this? Okay then. The last instalment in the inexplicably long-lived Scary Movie franchise came out in 2006. It was the fourth, meaning, at that time, that the Scary Movies had out-sequelled the Scream****s from which they sprung. Since then however, we've had Scream 4, so not to be outdone, Dimension now bring us **Scary Movie 5. This is the second trailer to be released. Incredibly, we missed the first one. Sorry about that.
What's happened in horror since 2006? The found-footage revival, basically, plus all the Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan shenanigans (not that that's horror... or maybe sort of). Sheen and Lohan get a quick scene in the trailer, which may well be their entire appearance. We've also got pot-shots at Paranormal Activity, Sinister, Mama, and the Evil Dead remake. So if you wanted to say something in its favour, it's at least up to date. The synopsis at Coming Soon suggests that the overall "plot" is somehow cribbed from Black Swan.
Along with Sheen and Lohan, Scary Movie 5 features Ashley Tisdale, Erica Ash, Simon Rex, Molly Shannon, Terry Crews, Marisa Saks, Heather Locklear, Jasmine Guy, Angie Stone, Kate Walsh, Angela "Big Ang" Raiola, Sheree Whitfield, Mike Tyson, Audrina Patridge, Kendra Wilkinson and Katt Williams. David Zucker, who directed Scary Movie 4, has taken a step back into a writer/producer role, so Malcolm D Lee (Undercover Brother, Soul Men) has been calling the shots this time. It's out in the UK on April 12. "Evil is coming" indeed.
