Now that festival audiences have had a proper look at the film, the talk is turning to the fact that Moonlight director Barry Jenkins' If Beale Street Could Talk will certainly be in awards contention. Take a look at the new trailer, which lays out more of the plot.

Based on acclaimed author James Baldwin's 1974 novel (reissued in 2006), Beale Street's story is told through the eyes of Tish (Kiki Layne), a 19-year-old girl, in love with Fonny (Stephan James), a young sculptor who is the father of her child. Tish and Fonny have pledged to get married, but Fonny is falsely accused of a terrible crime and imprisoned. Their families set out to clear his name, and as they face an uncertain future, the young lovers experience a kaleidoscope of emotions: affection, despair and hope.

If Beale Street Could Talk also features the likes of Regina King, Pedro Pascal, Ed Skrein and Diego Luna in the cast and will arrive in the States on 30 November before landing in the UK on 18 January, though lucky attendees of the London Film Festival will have the chance to see it next month.
