First announced around this time two years ago, the latest sequel to The Ring was shot in the spring of 2015, but has been trapped in a well ever since, experiencing several release delays. Rings is now, finally, almost upon us, however, and to mark its imminent arrival here's a new trailer.

Walking the line between threequel and reboot, Rings apparently takes place 13 years after the first of the American remake series, maintaining that continuity. The new clip, utilising that favourite horror trailer trope of a music-box tune and creepy kids' rhyme, makes clear that we're now firmly beyond the days of curses arriving on VHS tapes. Samara's video has gone viral online...

Brazilian filmmaker F. Javier Gutierrez directed this one, with a cast that includes Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, and a bearded, wizened, mentor type Vincent D’Onofrio.

Rings is out on February 3. For a full history of the complete Ring(u) franchise so far, check out Empire's handy one-stop guide.
