It may sound the next verse of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy but Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage is a collection of short stories by Canadian writer Alice Munro. The first of them** **is now Hateship Loveship, a film starring Kristen Wiig, and it has a new trailer fresh in via Yahoo!.
In a rare dramatic part for the Saturday Night Live star, Wiig plays a diffident nanny, Johanna Parry, working for Nick Nolte's old-timer Mr. McCauley and helping look after his young granddaughter, Sabitha (Hailee Steinfeld). Things take an unwelcome turn for the Sleepless In Seattle when Sabitha and a school pal take it on themselves to fake emails between her and the trouble dad-in-law Ken (Guy Pearce). Will the strange frisson between them spark the demure Parry into life? You betcha.
Hateship Loveship has a relative newbie director in Liza Johnson, whose previous feature, Return, had John Slattery and Michael Shannon in a post-Iraq homecoming drama. This one offers a welcome chance for Wiig to show off the dramatic chops we caught a glimpse of in The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty.
Wiig fans (Wiigle-Piigles?) will know that her schedule also includes Diary Of A Teenage Girl**, alongside that dishy Alexander Skarsgard, and How To Train Your Dragon 2, coming on July 4. Loveship Hateship, meanwhile, reaches American cinemas on April 11.
