While it's not the live-action movie we've all been clamouring for, this WonderCon reveal of the new Thundercats animated series is still capable of eliciting a feline thrill. Thundercats! Hooooooo!

The anime-flavoured collaboration between Warners and Japan's Studio 4C has changed the game somewhat by having Lion-O and co. head into their own planet's interior, rather than to another planet: this time they're going off-map but not off-world.

The clip gives us glimpses of all the 'cats, plus dastardly Mumm-Ra, and the Thundertank, which looks more or less like it always did. Redesigns for Wilykit and Wilykat though, who now have tails. And we can apparently expect quite a different Snarf: the WonderCon panel (producers Michael Jelenic and Ethan Spaulding; art director Dan Norton; voice of old-version Lion-O and new-version Claudius Larry Kenney) likened him to Chewbacca, at least in terms of voice. But you'll still be able to pick out that he's saying "Snarf".

The agenda for the new series has been to "heat everything up" which bodes particularly well for Cheetara. Is it wrong to have a thing for an animated cat-amazon? We're saying no. "She's the original Thundercats ho," jokes Kenney. "This isn't being recorded, is it?"

The series airs later this year on Cartoon Network, with a voice cast also including Clancy Brown and Will "Batman Beyond" Friedle. Cool as it looks, it still can't top this{ =nofollow}.
