While Lionsgate's new Texas Chain Saw Massacre was originaly earmarked for this Hallowe'en, all seemed to have gone a bit quiet lately. Now though, here's a new poster to reassure us that while the film may have missed its Samhain deadline, it'll be with us at the start of next year instead.
Following the vaguely Unforgiven-like teaser poster from last year, what we appear to have here is a shot of Leatherface's mask collection, taken, of course, from his victims. It's nice that he has some sort of storage system, although we're not sure of the extent to which they're usefully filed and catalogued.
Also new this morning is the synopsis, courtesy of Fangoria. Previous reports had seemed to indicate a bonkers plot in which Leatherface's cousin was given custody of him as part of the terms of an inheritance. Now it seems, disappointingly but perhaps a bit more sensibly, that the inheritance part is correct, but that nobody is actually aware that Ol' Cousin 'Face is still living on the estate, when the traditional band of horny teens turns up to claim it.
Texas Chainsaw 3D, as we're apparently to call it, is not actually Part 3 of the rebooted series that began with Marcus Nispel's remake-cum-sequel and continued with Jonathan Liebesman's prequel The Beginning. Those gave us a family called Hewitt (there's a joke about our man Chris there somewhere), whereas here we're back to the orginal Sawyers, in a story that's said to take place immediately after Tobe Hooper's original.
Principal scream queen this time is Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson), with support from Tania Raymonde and Scott Eastwood. We're also promised roles of varying size for series royalty Gunnar Hansen, Marilyn Burns and Bill Moseley.
The director is John Luessenhop (Takers), and the film's out in the UK on January 4.
