It's hard not to be skeptical when there's a new Terminator movie on the way, given how many times we've been burned in the years since Terminator 2. But in the spirit of hoping for the best, not to mention the more concrete input of cyborg overlord James Cameron this time, we're going to take a wait and see approach to Terminator: Dark Fate, which has new images of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and their fellow cast members online.

With Schwarzenegger playing the aged version of his classic T-800, Hamilton is also back this time as Sarah Connor, and Dark Fate director Tim Miller told IGN that she was key to making the movie work. "The fact that Linda came back makes this particular Terminator fresh, this story could only continue with her in the role of Sarah Connor. That’s the most important thing for me. Linda reinvented this character in a way that both honors who she was before and brings something new to the role."

Mackenzie Davis will be Grace, a "soldier-assassin" who may or may not be a disguised Terminator. Could she inherit Connor's mantle if the franchise goes forward from here.

Gabriel Luna is playing another Terminator, one that remains a mystery for now, but certainly gives off T-1000 vibes in this image.

Diego Boneta's character is even more of a mystery – we don't have a confirmed name for him, nor do we know what his character will be up to in the movie, though we'd guess he'll be one of the humans trying to stop the cybernetic apocalypse.

Finally, we have Natalia Reyes as a woman named Dani Ramos, who has been described as significant.

Terminator: Dark Fate is distributed by Paramount in the States, and with the company impressing audiences at CinemaCon this week with footage, we could be seeing a trailer before too long. 20th Century Fox (or should that be DisneyFox?) has it in the UK, and the movie will be out on 23 October.
