The teaser trailer that dropped online last month contained plenty of the titular** Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles**, a good look at Megan Fox’s April O’Neil and just a dash of William Fichtner as the villain. What it was sorely lacking was anything from the Turtles’ master, mutated rat Splinter, a situation now remedied by a new TV spot.
This short clip features some footage we saw in the earlier promo, but a look (well, a profile glimpse at least) of Splinter, who was played on set by Danny Woodburn in a performance-capture suit but who will be voiced by Tony Shalhoub. Here, he can be found explaining to his adoptive turtle teens what they’re fighting for.
With some shake-ups in the mythology (not the least of which appears to be more of a connection between April, Shredder and the Turtles’ origin) the film is expected to feature a lot of the main characters being teenaged ninjas who also happen to be walking, talking, pizza-scoffing turtles as they discover their origin and fight evil while presumably finding time for a quip or two.
With Will Arnett, Whoopi Goldberg, Abby Elliott and K. Todd Freeman all aboard, Jonathan Liebesman called the shots for the film, which arrives on October 17.
