While Gravity,** Inside Llewyn Davis** and 12 Years A Slave have already been gathering positive critical chatter, word on Moneyball man Bennett Miller’s latest, Foxcatcher has been much quieter. That’s because he’s still tinkering with it to make a December release date in the States, though people who have seen footage say good things. Now two new pictures have arrives featuring Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo
Foxcatcher unspools another taut true sports story, following what happens when Olympic champion wrestling brothers Mark (Tatum) and Dave (Ruffalo) Schultz befriended chemical fortune heir John du Pont (Carell). With du Pont looking to start a wrestling academy, the brothers seemed like natural colleagues, but things turned sour and the schizophrenic du Pont ended up murdering the elder Schultz.
From the sound – and the looks – of it, along with the fact that Tatum called it the “hardest acting challenge I’ve had to date”, Miller’s latest could be a real awards contender.
With Sienna Miller, Anthony Michael Hall and Vanessa Redgrave also among the cast, Foxcatcher is due for release here on January 17.
