Okay, so Nic Cage’s hair doesn’t actually create magic in the new promo for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, though that raggedy rat's nest looks like it could hold a couple of rabbits for a stage act. The trailer itself, which launched today over at Apple, however does offer some hefty spectacle.
You’ll no doubt be aware of the basic synopsis, but just in case: Cage’s Balthazar Blake, master sorcerer and force for good, recruits hapless protégé Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel, seemingly on a mission to star in half of this year’s movies) in the fight against the evil Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina, giving good villainous snarl).
Against the backdrop of modern-day New York, an epic battle between the magical legions of darkness and light will be fought, which means plenty of huge special effects set pieces, Cage being kooky and Baruchel bringing his gawkward charm to the moments that need puns.
We’ve got some hope for this one, which arrives on 13 August.
