Eighteen months after we last heard anything, it's been revealed that Columbia Pictures are still at work on a sequel to 2010's **Salt{
Salt, you'll remember if you wrack your brains hard enough, saw Jolie playing Evelyn Salt, a CIA spook (MEGA SPOILERS!) trying to prove she's not a Russian agent, before it transpires that she actually is one. The first film ended with a serious "tune in next time", as Evelyn embarked on a personal mission to identify and stop all the other sleeper agents created in the same programme as herself.
That "next time" hasn't arrived as quickly as Columbia might have liked, however. Last we heard, the first Salt's writer Kurt Wimmer was back at work on Evelyn's further adventures, but Jolie was apparently unconvinced by the shape that screenplay took. Hence Becky Johnston's arrival. An interesting choice, she's better known for dramas like The Prince Of Tides and Seven Years In Tibet, possibly indicating that Jolie required some more character flesh on the bones of the story.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Sunil Perkash are producing, but there's no director attached as yet. If Jolie still doesn't sign on following the new draft, Columbia apparently have Jeremy Renner on speed dial.*
