What poster from yonder browser window breaks? Tis the new one for Carlo Carlei's adaptation of Romeo And Juliet and it's below for you to gaze upon. Gird your cod-pieced loins, fish out your GSCE English notes and pack your tissues for more star-crossed tragedy.
While at first glance it seems to be about 174 per cent hair, somewhere under those perfectly tousled manes are its two young leads, Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth. They're the youngest members of the Capulet and Montague houses who fall headlong into love and a dangerous no-man's land between their warring clans.
With a script by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, this **Romeo And Juliet **(note the 'And' here: none of that fancy-dan Baz Luhrmann '+' business) has been shooting in Mantua - the city Romeo is banished to in the play, authenticity fans - with some extra soundstage work at Rome’s famous Cinecitta Studios.
Booth, most recently seen in the BBC’s Great Expectations, is Romeo, while True Grit’s Steinfeld is Juliet. Ed Westwick and Kodi Smit-McPhee take on the roles of Tybalt and Benvolio, while Downton Abbey's Paul Giamatti is dishing out the meds as Verona's own Walter White, Friar Laurence.
Romeo And Juliet doesn't have a release date as yet, but look out for it later in the year.
