The idea of a fifth outing for Sylvester Stallone’s John Rambo flared up after Rambo did solid business back in 2008. Since then, it’s been back and forth between rumoured storylines with Stallone himself saying the story’s pretty much done. Now here comes German company Splendid Film to announce that it has picked up **Rambo V.

Translated by Coming Soon, the announcement reads thusly: “With Rambo V, Sylvester Stallone returns in his iconic role. This time he goes up against a Mexican cartel. Stallone, who has also written the screenplay, describes the new Rambo as his version of** No Country For Old Men**. Like the last film, **Rambo V **is produced by Avi Lerner (The Expendables 1-3).”

The cartel angle was one that was floated more than once in the past, so it appears feasible that Stallone and co. could have gone back to the idea. As for the comparison to No Country For Old Men… Well, Rambo certainly specialises in violence, and Mexican cartels do operate in that border desert environment, but that’s probably where the Coen film comparisons end.

It’s anyone’s guess as to whether something comes of this: it could be a company jumping the gun on a deal, or it could be Stallone deciding that he’s ready for one last go-around with Rambo on the heels of what is being touted as the final Expendables. We should know more either way when Stallone hits the PR tour for the aforementioned bullet fest, which is out on August 14 and recently posted a new trailer online.
