UPDATE: So sadly it wasn't a new movie. It's nothing to do with Robert Rodriguez or Arnold Schwarzenegger... or even Danny Glover or Paul WS Anderson. Predator**'s presence at Comic-Con and the pay-off to the tease turns out to be in honour of a new 3D Blu-ray release for the original film. There's also a 3D printing booth where you can order a statuette of a Predator holding aloft your own severed head!
The new Blu-ray is possibly still good news, since nobody much is happy with either of the old ones (respectively not restored enough and scrubbed to a wax-doll like sheen). If Fox have undertaken yet another restoration along with the 3D-isation (they gave I, Robot the same treatment last year) then we might be in for something significant. But for those awaiting a Predator 4, the hiatus continues...
With the San Diego Comic-Con about to kick off this week, there are the expected participants – your Marvel movies, your** Ender’s Game**, your Divergent, among others this year – and then there are the surprises, including viral teases and campaigns designed to drum up word of mouth. Now the Facebook page for 2010’s **Predators has put up an intriguing image, which you can find lurking in the gallery below.
Spotted by the gang over at Hitfix, the image features a map chunk of San Diego with a quote from the original 1987 movie: “There's something out there waiting for us, and it ain't no man. We're all gonna die…” and the hashtag #HuntThePredator.
What could it mean? Predators producer Robert Rodriguez might be announcing a sequel, something he’s talked about since that film arrived. It could be a new video game or other experience based on the creature, or it could even be a reboot of the original, though we’re doubtful about that. Even with Arnold Schwarzenegger rooting through his back catalogue to make new films, that seems unlikely.
Team Empire will be at the Con to bring you word of whatever this means. We’ll be stocking up on mud and Miniguns just in case.
