Last time a poster for the latest Jason Statham ass-kickathon Safe emerged online, we wondered if it wasn't perhaps a tad disappointing that it didn't feature the big man holding a gun to camera.
And now, as if by magic...
Do you really need to know any more?
Statham's latest stoic, slightly wry badass is an MMA cage fighter who crosses the Russian mob and gets his family killed for his trouble. Down and out in New York, he sees a chance for redemption when he decides to rescue a twelve-year-old Chinese mathematical prodigy from said gangsters (they're using her as their accountant, or something). But her escape triggers a three-way war between the Russians, the Triads and a corrupt faction of the NYPD, all of whom are after a priceless code that only the girl knows.
The Stath versus two entire mafias and the cops ought to equal surefire gold. Our only concern is: will having a kid in tow cramp his style?
Chris Sarandon, James Hong, Reggie Lee and Anson Mount co-star, and Boaz Yakin is the director. He wrote the Dolph Lundgren version of The Punisher, you know. We get Safe in the UK on May 11.
