Heralding its imminent premier in Toronto, a new poster and batch of stills for The Fifth Estate has been leaked online. Haha, and we make that "leak" joke because the film is about Wikileaks and Julian Assange. Do you see? Benedict Cumberbatch stars as the controversial whistleblower, with support from Daniel Brühl, Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis, Alicia Vikander, Carice van Houten, Dan Stevens, Stanley Tucci, Laura Linney and New Doctor™ Peter Capaldi.

The story of the film follows Assange (Cumberbatch) and his cohort Daniel Domscheit-Berg (Brühl) as they create the online platform on which people can leak the darkest secrets of governments and corporations, and then deal with the consequences in different ways.

The creation of Wikileaks, of course, led to a deluge of classified information being made public, and the site attracted massive worldwide scrutiny, particularly when it invited the ire of the US by publishing an enormous haul of intelligance documents. "The Fifth Estate reveals the quest to expose the deceptions and corruptions of power that turned an Internet upstart into the 21st century’s most fiercely debated organization," says the film's official blurb.

Bill Condon is the director and Josh Singer wrote the screenplay. Click here for more pics, and see below for the trailer which was released in July. The Fifth Estate opens the Toronto International Film Festival in September, and arrives in the UK on October 11.
