No, the new poster for Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes does not mean that the latest franchise entry will be a big-budget, horse-powered remake of this segment from Stephen Colbert’s show{ =nofollow}. What it promises, in fact, is Andy Serkis’ Caesar and the rest of his ape family/troops taking their conflict with humanity to another level even as he tries to push for peace. Take a look at the new image, arriving courtesy of IGN.

A decade after the events in Rise, the world is a very different place. The ape civilization is growing stronger every day, while the devastating virus unleashed all those years ago has devastated humanity. Thus far, a fragile peace has been forged between the different factions, but that truce is shattered when the simians realise there are more human survivors than they first thought…

Matt Reeves is directing this one, marshalling a cast that includes Serkis, Terry Notary, Toby Kebbell, Judy Greer and Karin Konoval in performance capture rigs to play the apes, with Keri Russell, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman and Kodi Smit-McPhee amongst the human numbers. {New Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes Stills}

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes swings into cinemas on July 17 and, having seen more footage from it, we’re definitely anticipating this one.
