Rejoice and be glad, for the greatest studio on Earth has announced its film for 2009, and lo it shall be beautiful. Up is set to be Pixar's next-but-two offering, after this year's we've-seen-half-of-it-and-we-can't-wait-to-see-the-rest Ratatouille and next year's we're-so-excited-about-it Wall*E. Up will then be followed by Toy Story 3 in 2010.
As is traditional with Pixar, details of Up's** **plot are sketchy at best. We do know, however, that it's the story of a 70 year-old man who teams up with a wilderness ranger to "fight beasts and villains". We're guessing that there'll be something of an environmental undercurrent (overcurrent?) but that's all that the studio has confirmed so far.
In more good news (our cup is runneth-ing over), Monsters Inc.'s Pete Docter (not to be confused with any drug-taking musicians who date supermodels) is directing, and Finding Nemo writer and actor Bob Peterson is writing the script. So will this be the film that we wish **Open Season **had been? We can only hope.
